This professional study aims to build school administrators’ capacity to lead a 1:1 initiative in their schools. As 1:1 savvy administrators, they must prepare and encourage their staff to take on the task of purposeful integration of technology in the classroom. They must also model and set expectations for proper usage. The project’s foundation is to build schoolwide capacity for appropriate use of devices and proven instructional strategies that directly support Alabama College and Career Ready Standards teaching, learning, and assessing for understanding. Also, an important part of this project’s foundation is that instructional leaders know how to evaluate the effectiveness of the 1:1 implementation in their schools as well. “Part of the evaluation process includes sharing with teachers what has been observed in the classroom and offering support in the form of technology PD that is led by the administrator as a way to model what they learned in their PD sessions” (Martin, 2019, p. 30).
The predicted outcome will be that administrators will be knowledgeable of the many aspects of 1:1device use in their schools and be well prepared in the implementation, support, and management of the initiative. “As principals lead, support, and influence teachers in the implementation of a one-to-one initiative, they will benefit from establishing a strong vision, eliciting support from all stakeholders, and focusing on preparation to create successful one-to-one initiative change” (Cutter, 2017).
